Clean water for rural schools

Rain Falls on Every School. Not Every Tank.

Rural schools across Uganda often go without reliable clean water — long dry-season walks, closed taps, lost learning hours. Save the Rain installs rainwater harvesting systems that change that, one school at a time.

Why We Do This

Save the Rain Uganda started with a simple observation: schools with good roofs and good rain were still sending students to fetch water from distant, often unsafe sources — losing hours of the school day and putting health at risk. Since 2016, under founder and Executive Director David Okello, we've worked directly with school communities to capture the rain that already falls on their roofs, store it safely, and put it to use where it matters most: in the classroom, at the tap, in the kitchen.

What We Do

Every project follows the same simple idea — capture the rain, store it well, and make sure it lasts.

  • Rainwater Harvesting Systems

We design and install gutter, tank, and filtration systems sized to each school's roof and student population, built to last through Uganda's dry seasons.

  • School Partnership Process

We work with headteachers, staff, and local leaders from survey to handover, so every system fits the school's real needs — not a one-size-fits-all install.

  • Student & Community Impact

Clean water at school means fewer hours lost fetching water, healthier students, and a resource the whole surrounding community can lean on.

From the Field

  • “For the first time, our girls don't miss class to fetch water. The rain now belongs to our children.”
Josephine Akello Headteacher, St. Andrew's Primary, Luwero
